Richardson’s Rumble Sportive: Wheels in Wheels Events Ltd, long time organisers of sportives in the UK and Mallorca, start their 2013 sportive season this weekend with the Richardson’s Rumble sportive in Cambridgeshire
Sunday 10th March sees the fourth running of the popular Richardson’s Rumble sportive in St Ives Cambridgeshire. This early season event has long been popular with riders as its laid back atmosphere makes it a good way to start your sportive season or to take part in your first organised event.
There are two routes available, 100miles and 67miles, starting and finishing at the Richardson’s Cycles shop in the centre of St Ives with both taking in quiet lanes of Cambridgeshire, and it’s bordering three counties on the 100 mile route. What the area lacks in large climbs it more than makes up for in scenery and if the wind is blowing you’ll be in for a hard workout on the flatlands and glad there’s no big hills. All finishers also receive free food and drink in the local cafe at the finish so there’ll be plenty of opportunities to catch up with other riders.
To help any less experienced riders or newcomers to enjoy the ride and learn some road skills, ride captains will take groups on the 67mile route to help to pass on advice such as riding in groups, bike handling and nutrition during the ride. The road captains will ride at a speed suitable for each group and will keep everyone together to help pass on their experience. This service is free but riders wishing to join the groups are encouraged to register beforehand to ensure their place in a group
Both routes will have the usual excellent back up structure from Wheels in Wheels Events and will be fully signposted, have well stocked feed stations with Clif Bar energy products, full mechanical back en route as well as the start/finish, and a broom wagon should all else fail.
